Context

Amarula, launched in September 1989 by the Southern Liqueur Company in South Africa, has its origins in a fruit consumed as a drink. Although Amarula is renowned in Quebec for its distinctive taste, its history remains little-known. We had a great opportunity to tell this story in a fun and entertaining way.

Mandate

  • Inform consumers about the Amarula brand (the manufacturing process, harvesting, the legend...the choice of the elephant in the logo).

  • Have consumers taste the product.

  • Encourage purchase of the product.

Solution

  • Secure a suitable promotional footprint in high traffic shopping malls in close proximity to the SAQ location.

  • Present the brand and its history in the form of an exhibit including:

    • A virtual reality component / activity.

    • An exclusive installation by Montreal artist Laurence Vallières, of an elephant made from Amarula cardboard boxes.

  • Have consumers taste Amarula on ice or in an “Amarula Coco” cocktail, especially as the holiday season approaches and consumers are looking for ideas.

  • Let consumers know about the discounts and “Inspire” points offered at SAQ locations.

  • Promote the purchase bonus: reusable straws available at the kiosk upon presentation of proof of purchase.
